Pan Brian Paine, who was born n England, has pursued a wide ranging aristic career on both sides of the Atlantic, including graphic design, alphabet design and calligraphy, photography, ceramics and sculpture, as well as the restoration of 16th - 18th centruy houses and antique dealing. While stilling in the British Isles, he began to paint sporadically and also wrote and illustrated some children's books intended to encourage the creative development of mainly preschoolers. His conviction that creativity is one of the most important aspects of human development resulted for a time in a successful series of creativitiy playshops for adults, stimulating the creative spark in its participants, whatever form that might take. In 1985 he stttled in the United States after taking a Fine Arts B.A. course in London and traveling for a period. His main focus turned to painting and he has exhibited in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Rental Gallery, Albuquerque, Sedona, San Diego, and currently in Texas as well as locally in Northern California. A review of his first show in London was titled "The Brushes that Dance with Joy" and this still exemplifies Pan's attitude towards his art. A more recent development is his love for cartoons and poetry, both of which lend themselves as vehicles for his subtle sense of humor which stems from a deep understanding of the absurdities of the human condition. Since 1986 Pan has been living with a view of majestic Mount Shasta, with his wife Neera, in their unique home which is another of his creations.
